Project  Sunken Assets
Approach seminar-course  to Underwater Archeology

The Centro Sub Corato APS ETS , making use of the support of internal and external specialists at the ArcheoSUB Nucleus , since 2011 , as part of the Submerged Heritage Project ,  annually organizes the Seminar-course of approach to Underwater Archeology , open to divers and non-divers.

The goal of the  Submerged Assets Project  it is the creation of a shared conscience aimed at the knowledge and protection of the Italian submerged archaeological heritage and, in particular, of Puglia.

The  Seminar-course of approach to Underwater Archeology  it also provides the basics of underwater archaeological research methodology ,  on the organization of an underwater archaeological site ,  on the prevention of problems related to work diving and to promote knowledge of the current legislation on the protection of underwater cultural heritage , as well as notions on the behaviors to be followed in case of accidental discovery.

The seminar-course of approach to Underwater Archeology  provides a first theoretical part  and a second practical part :

  • The first theoretical part consists of a cycle of divided seminars concerning i  Submerged Heritage , Underwater Archeology , the  Geology , the  Marine biology  and the  Rules for the protection of underwater cultural heritage and the role of the Coast Guard .

  • There  second practical part , on the other hand, allows those who already have a diving license (at least First Level, OWD) to participate in a series of simulations of  underwater archaeological prospecting  and of  underwater shipbuilding aimed at archeology , following which it is possible  obtain the patent  of Underwater Specialty Artifact Diver  (according to the IDEA teaching method).

 

At the end of the course the students are issued with the certificate of attendance and, only for the students who complete the second practical part , the Artifact Diver Certificate and the Artifact Diver Specialty Diploma are also issued.  (of teaching  IDEA  which has international validity and is equipped with  ISO and EN certification ).

The Seminar-course of approach to Underwater Archeology , now in its tenth edition, makes use of a historic partnership with the History and Art Research Center - Conversano and  joint patronage of the Municipality of Conversano and the Municipality of Corato  and is included in the program of the events of the Coratina Summer 2021 entitled You are my city .
